Hi,
I recently had a Transmission Fault message on the iDrive so I found a local BMW specialist as I didn't want to pay an extortionate amount at BMW, and took the car in to get it checked out.
They checked the diagnostics which said something like gear pad deterioration so they took a sample of the gear fluid and checked it but found nothing. they topped up the fluid and reset the adaptions and gave the car back to me.
What i noticed since is that the gear changes at the bottom and top end are very jerky. slowing to a stop maybe 3 to 2 or 2 to 1 bring a feeling of a bump and accelerating hard up to around 3000 rpm and 80mph there is a huge lurch like a fail of power then power kicks in and catapults the car forward. Feels like it's taking forever to engage the next gear.
This only started happening after i got the car back so i took it back to the 'specialist' and explained what was happening. They said it wasn't anything they've done (they don't understand the phrase "it only started after you gave it back to me"). They checked it and said nothing wrong and handed the car back.
I'm not happy but i don't want to take it back to the specialist as it's a waste of time and effort, i won't be using them again, but now i think i need to get BMW to tune it, which will cost me a small fortune. I'm quite frustrated and wondered if anyone on the forum could give me any advice?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Why is it that once they have taken your money they don't want to know when you go back with a problem? If they were worth using again they would have helped you in order to keep your custom. It could be due to overfill of the transmission fluid, but if you go to a BMW dealer I suggest that you don't volunteer too many details unless asked.

Thanks for the replies. Yep, not going back to the same garage. I'm taking it in to a different one who want me to demonstrate the issue to them, which gives me a little more confidence that they'll fix it and not cause other problems, or at least accept that they've caused them!
I've tried the accelerator 30sec reset to relearn the driving style a while ago but it is still happening. May try it again but think the problem is more fundamental than that.
