I'm thinking of trading the 06 530i (build March 05) for an 08 535xi, mainly for the enhanced performance and AWD. According to Edmunds, the car I want with my options lists for 55,225 and costs the dealer 50,840. I got my last car (530i) for 2500 over dealer cost. Any idea what the spread is these days for the more-popular 535? I see on this board that a lot of dealers are trying to get close to list because the car is so hot, yet local dealers (there are 4 within 20 miles of where I live) have loads of inventory.
Thanks for your help.

I shopped all around and couldn't get better than $2200 above invoice back in June. I am in Washington state so your experience would vary for sure.

I bought mine in April of this year and MSRP was $56,425. Invoice price was $51,930, according to edmunds. I bought the car for $54,000 which was $2,070 over listed invoice. The car was just introduced back then so you may have some room to play with. I recommend you do not tell them you are trading in a car until you have a deal. Clean and detail your car thoroughly and when you pull into the dealership park away from the entrance so they won't see your car. If they start asking questions about how you are going to buy this car just tell them you have not decided yet but will buy it today or the day you walk in. Be prepared to buy it and leave yours that day, it's the best way to really be able to negotiate and get what you wan't on the spot. If they are low balling you then tell them politely you are very serious and would like to get this done today if not you will go to the next dealer.
Hope that helps. If your wondering I bought mine at Prestige BMW in New Jersey on route 17. Ask for Lori the others are not in her league. Be prepared and have your numbers. They see that they know not to play games.
Good Luck. If you decide to go there you can tell her I referred you, if you like.
