a break means the production line is stopped and the new models put on .. thats it !
I'm not disputing that a break would occur in 2007, or even later in 2006. I am, however, questioning the assertion that a break would occur four~five months after the 550s appeared, which seems to be the thrust of the 2007MY-refresh-in-March-of-2006 speculation.

Autocar in the UK reported that the BMW 5 E60 would get a mild facelift in 2007. This was to the front fender, rear fender and possibly part of the truck lid. Some engines are also likely to get updates at the same time (not the 2.0d, 3.0d or the 550i) The changes look so minor that most people apart from us geeks would notice.

I have an 06 530 on order right now as well. Expected delivery is approx mid march.

I don't really care about the facelift, but what I really care about is the engine. If there is going to be a 535, I'd love to have one, ESPECIALLY if it's a turbo. I love turbo'd cars. My dad has a WRX for a commuter and it rocks. About 2500.00 in mods took it from 227hp to about 300hp.

I heard that the direct injection turbo engines are really easy to mod too. Supposedly, vw's direct inject 2.0 turbo can go from 220 hp to almost 300 with just a chip. I'd love to see what someone can do with a 3.5 liter turbo'd 6 could do. 550 killer???

I just heard from my SA - March will start 07 models - aparently to meet CA emissions requirements - he said there were no changes in options or anything else - my car which is in production now seems to be of the last 06s produced - i am getting a brand new old car...

Over on one of the E90 discussion forums, someone is claiming that BMW's DCS.Net site is showing March 2006 production start for 2007 model year for the E60. Models listed are 525/530/550 so there does not appear to be any engine change.

This seems too early for the mid cycle facelift for the E60 which ordinarly would occur four years after introduction or September 2007 as a 2008 model.

Would anyone here care to speculate as to what changes could be expected with March production?

Oh, and here is the link:

BMW probably is trying to obfuscate its tricky 05 release of the 550i.

night vision will be an option starting March production in the E60's ... here is an email I received from BMW....

20.01.2006 16:10:05, Brands and Products
BMW Night Vision available in the 5 and 6 Series as of March. BMW only manufacturer to offer this innovative driver assistance system in a total of five model series. BMW Night Vision, the innovative driver assistance system introduced in the 7 Series in autumn 2005, is available from March 2006 also in the 5 Series Saloon, 5 Series Touring, 6 Series Coup?, and 6 Series Convertible. BMW thus offers this technology for extra safety at night not just in the top-of-the-range model, but also - as the only manufacturer - in a total of five model series, in this way making BMW Night Vision available to a large group of customers.

My dealer just confirmed that the 2007 5 series will begin production in March of this year. He did not specify what changes would be made, but seemed to think that a price increase (similar to what was just announced for the UK) was unlikely for the US since the prices were just raised in September.

My 550i is scheduled to be produced next week -- it has a VIN and everything -- and I am seriously considering putting it on hold given this news. I do not have strong feelings about the spy photos of the trim changes (back bumper flare, etc.) but if there are indeed new options (night vision, soft-close doors) standard features (AUX connector in center armrest) and other changes bandied about on these forums, I will probably hold off for the new model.

Not to mention the fact that my car would be 1 model year old almost the day I received it....

Heard from my dealer again... beginning with March 06 production, 5-series changes will include:

1) Night Vision option
2) Sport package will include Comfort Seats and the SMG-style steering wheel (presumably without the paddles)

Note that I am in the US... I believe the euro models already get the SMG wheel with the sport package?
