Although I'd never say it's distracting, the HUD is something that you "notice" more when the car is new.
After a while, it simply becomes a place you glance at to get information you need.? It's never "in the way" and it never causes me problems.? I keep wishing that BMW will add some choices to the HUD because I love it so much.? Once you have it, you won't want to go back to a car without it!?

the ppl who are saying it is distracting never used it, or just used it on a demonstration car for a couple of minutes...

I guess that's my point. It only "distracts" you if you think about it. You only really think about it when it's new. Once you get used to it, like anything else, you don't have to think about it anymore, it's just there...

I'll probably never do it again, since the laugh it gave me was when I was looking up again in my HUD was dangerous...

Welcome and congratulations on your new car - good choice. Sorry to hear you chickened out on the 6-speed manual, but I guess it is only available with the sports package. You are luck to be able to order exactly what you want in a car, enjoy.

Here is why:
You would need a new windshield, complete new dashboard and software. Now think about the labour...
If you want to switch your standard seats and get the comfort seats, that's an 8,000.- USD retrofit... And that's easy compared to the HUD retrofit.
There are many cables you would need and you currently don't have. So, your dealer would have to take the car apart...
Therefore your question has to be answered: NO!

Iceman,
How is the windshield different if you have HUD? I just thought it projected onto the standard windshield.

After driving a non SP 530i for almost a week as a loaner, I am totally convinced that the only way to go is with the SP. Yes, the SP ride is a bit harsher considering the car is out fitted with the run flats, but if you are a driving enthusiast then this is truly the way to go. I found the non SP ride to be a bit too soft for my liking. I also noticed that the non SP car didnt quite have that punch as the SP when you engage the sport mode. The one good thing I liked about the loaner I had was that it had the L7 audio system which was absolutely wicked and made me regret not getting that in mine.

[/quote]Thanks Rudy, for jumping in!
This info Rudy just posted explains it. there is a special layer in the windshield to make the projection work!
