So I was in at my dealer on the weekend, and saw that they have a used 2007 550i. Apparently some guy bought it, drove it for a while, then came back and traded it in on a 650i. This car has less than 1,000 miles on it. This car is also has a 6 speed manual transmission.

I have a 2006 550i with 11,000 Miles on it. It has a steptronic transmission. I have always thought it would be fun to have the manual transmisssion. Options wise, they are both near identical and had identical (within $500) MSRP's.

So my question is, what do you think would be a fair difference in price if I were to trade my 2006 Step in on a used (slightly) 2007 6spd?

The dealership will of course try to rob every penny from you if you want to trade in your car. Since the 07 is a stick that is an advantage for you right there because *nobody* wants a stick, especially in a 550i. It's a hard car to sell so you can take the edge there. How much are they asking for the car? Sounds like the guy who traded in the car is loaded and probably got ripped a new one when traded in the 550i for the 650i.

Interesting consideration. What are they asking for the '07? I would guess about $62,500 with so few miles. And you will be lucky to get $50,000 for yours on trade at the dealer. So if you can get them inside of $10,000, do the deal.

Good luck.

MSRP on my '06 and the '07 is $67k and change. They are asking $61k for the 6 spd. Yes, I figure I have the advantage as nobody would want the manual, so they should be eager to get rid of it. All things being equal, they would have an easier time selling an 06 step rather than an 07 manual. Also with the '08's being out, even more in my favour. They are asking $61k for the 550, but a 535 was sitting right next to it for $57k with the auto trans. I would think most would take the '08 over the '07.

So, did you make the swap, and if so, what were they offering you for your car?

No swap yet. I am waiting for them to call me back. I don't want to chase them. Suits my position better if they are chasing me. And if they don't call back, then I guess they are not desparate to sell it.

I would still be interested in others opinions on what we be fair value for the trade. Anyone?
