Hi everyone,

I just purchased my first BMW - 2007 530i and love the car but I am going nuts changing cd's in the HU like its 1993!

I was told by a local bmw dealer that it will cost me $950 + tax to purchase the ipod adapter (adapter for glovebox) and then charged roughly $600 to program the computer (over 8 hours of programming mind you) to be able to have full control thru the steering wheel and full access to all songs, not just play lists...

I have used Dension before and see that the 500 version is recomended but ARE THESE MY ONLY 2 OPTIONS FOR ALL SONGS AND FULL CONTROL??

Advise and input would be greatly appreciated!

8 hours of programming? That's nuts. I had mine intalled and and I think I was charged 1.5 hours. It does not involve a total programming of the car, simply activating the adaptor so the iDrive recognizes it. Total cost was less than $500 installed, including tax. That was back in 2006 in my old 545...

It should be around $400 installed at most dealers. $950 is a complete rip off!

Thanks everyone, I would rather blow $1000 on a great night I wouldnt remember...

I do not use the aux for anything currrently and dont think I will need to in the future. I have bluetooth, nav and NO cd changer in the car...

I have no clue why the auo industry doesnt get held to a standrd at all, upselling $500+ should be a violation in someones book!

That's even more than I was quoted ($700-$750). I decided to stay with CD on this car since I'm probably looking to replace it within a year or so. So for me it remains 1993.

it only takes 1.5-2 hours to program, the unit itself costs less than $300 and its simply held on by two screws and a plug which takes 5 minutes at the most to install

You should be with the unit, programed and out the door for less than $500 or close to it

they are just trying to rip you off

Thanks for all of the feedback. I called the same dealer again this morning and the parts guy is now quoting $350 for the part (invoice from this weekend shows $370) so more bs... I will check around with other local dealers and see if any of them will be at a reasonable price.

At this rate with the 1 cd at a time I might as well get in the car, gun it to 88 and take it back like an 8-track...

Thanks everyone
