If not an M5 I was thinking something a little low key like a Nissan Maxima? As much as I like flossin around town in a BMW, I feel the need to take a step back and focus my finances towards my condo which needs some serious remodeling if I tend to sell it soon. But then again, I've been in love with the M5 since it first debuted and would love to own a real one some day sooner or later. Let's see how things pan out for me
Infiniti G and M are not bad alternatives to the 3 and 5 Series. They offer most or all of the peformance and, IMHO, have better stereos, nav and electronics. Where they do not compete with BMW is in the refinement of the suspension and the ride/handling balance. The G and M ride very very hard over the bumps in a way that the 3 and 5 do not. A number of passengers complained of car sickness in my Infiniti M45 Sport due to its punishing ride. That has never happened in the 550i Sport. But the G and the M generally cost less than their BMW counterparts.

Yes the E60 M5 is amazing. The last time I wanted a drive similar to BMW but could not afford the BMW I wanted, I got an Infiniti (M45 Sport) which I liked very much. I have also rented the Infiniti G on a number of occassions and have several thousand miles in that car on various trips combined including an awesome drive from SFO to Carmel by the Sea and then on the PCH down to Cambria, then up to San Francisco and then up to Napa and Sonoma, ending at SFO.
