My Ride: 530i Touring, M Sport, build date 10/05, Silver Grey, Black leather, Maple Anthracite, Anthracite roof lining, panorama roof, M Aerodynamic, M Steering wheel, M Sport suspension, sport seats, shadow line, 135 M wheels, Goodyear NCT 5 runflats, and some other stuff too.
We love our Cooper S but it is just too small as the kids keep growing. The wife is looking for a mid-size wagon but frankly she is finding them short on fun (to be expected in this segment I guess). Who has had some experiences? So far we have tested:
Naturally, BMW 3 series Touring. Expensive and surprisingly tight in the back seat. Also, just a tad dull.
BMW X3. Dont want a 4WD. My wife declared it the second ugliest car on the road behind the Ssssssanyong!
Saab 9-3 Sport combi. Ok but a bit big and unconvinced/unsure of Saab quality and backup.
Audi A4. Seems to be right in most departments but somewhat dull at the price, she hates the front grille arrangement and no diesel available here.
Volvo V50. Perhaps the best looking. Drive doesn't match the BMW but costs way less too. Seems a good quality package allround.
PS. She will not under any circumstances buy an Mercedes!
Any thoughts and experiences appreciated.

Let thw BMW family grow, get an e61.
I would go for the 3 series or the Audi A4.
And what about the new Mercedes C-class?

My advice? Keep the Mini, get a few girlfriends.
