Without being too insensitive i've got to say frankly that the exterior looks like crap, especially the back which looks like a Hynday Sonata.
The interior is nice except the instrument clusters and the shape of the steering wheel. That's my honest opinion.

I think Mercedes style has taken a turn for the better with the new models. I think it's pretty compelling.
The new 5, new E class come out very soon, with the new A6 following in 2011. All are priced pretty much the same, which in Canada means $100k. Based on what i've seen, all three manufactures certainly warrant a test drive. The alternative is to go for a 2 - 3 year old AMG (CLS or E) or M5, but since I'll be finishing 3 years in the M5 and 2 years before that in the 550, it won't be another E60, so if the new 5 is not compelling enough I will get something different.
Don't get me wrong, I love BMW but no guarantee my next car will be a BMW. I can guarantee however that I will buy another BMW at some point.

Beautiful looking car IMHO. MB also has some great engines. But, at least to me, MB cannot compete with BMW supensions and steering. MB's suspensions have always been either too hard and unrefined (AMG cars) or too soft (non-AMG cars) while BMW suspensions get the ride-handling balance just right.
I don't want to own nor drive a taxi car. No one can say the new E-series coupe looks like a taxi!
And I'm getting old, it will be my own 50th birthday present. But as I said, only next year.
