I remember thinking that my G35 was a rocket when I leased it in 2003. Now that the lease is up I am awaiting my 530. I certainly didn't chose the 530 for reasons of speed, but I am curious (and need to fill the void while awaiting delivery) - which feels faster?
I see HP (260 vs 255), torque (260 vs 220) and mass figures are similar and depepnding which review I read the 0-60 times are very similar. My 530 testdrive was in heavy trafic, so I barely had the speedo over 100km... but I'll never drive very fast - 100MPH/160KPH would be the limit of my comfort zone (plus the local police are my clients so I need to remain a good boy). Anyone driven both and can comment on which feels faster? |
Old one! You don't feel speed in E60!

why g35 are u talking about the manual or auto? My friend has a G35 coupe 6 speed and against my 545....difference is not that huge if u drive normally (545 pulls away at 130mph). Its a nice car but definitely faster than a 530. If u like the bigger space, the status that comes with it and the look and feel and stering of a BMW get the E60. So speed wise G35 would be faster than a 530, and handling wise teh infiniti handles pretty good too...i am no expert so cannot see much of a difference because like it not, the G35 can take corners very well also. So teh question remains whether u want a bigger car with nicer looks...

I'd be happy to try and engineer a race between my buddy's G35 with 280hp and my 2006 530i. Can't guarantee he'll play along but I can suggest it.

I drove G35 few times before. It is faster than e60.
But e60 is much better on overall performance, driving from 0-60 is not the only thing you do in the car, right? G35 is a fun car to drive, but after few hours of driving the ?fun? starts to diminish, handling is far worse than e60. |

With the sports package and active steering the 530 will handle A LOT better than the G35. I doubt it will be as fast- although it should be close. If you get a 545, it will win hands down on any comparison.

Handling is a little more tricky to get your mind wrapped around. It really depends on what you mean by handling/performance. Braking - advantage G35. Skidpad - advtange 530 (I think) Cornering - probably 530, and it depends on the course Of course, part of the reason why the G35 may feel faster is because of its greater lower end torque compared to the 530i -- you get that nice V6 grunt from the Nissan VQ motor. It's like the old saying ... "horspower numbers are nice to quote, but the real fun starts where the torque curve starts to bend ..." :D |
Thanks guys, that's what I imagined. yes, I am talking about the 2003 auto sedan. I don't think the manual was out at the time of purchase (02).
I was hoping that the torque peak, which is much lower in the 530 than the G35 would generate a corresponmding sence of early power. Oh well - "it's a portfolio" as I like to say, and the bottom line on the 530 adds up to much more than the G35 portfolio... |
