What else did you consider (aside from the 5 series)?

Before the e60, I was looking at 330ci coupe and cabrio full loaded, than for some weeks Touareg, but I know it was the only good decission on E60 I have sat in that before and even that time there were some new mods coming so in May 2005 we bought it and never regret any penny spent on E60 is the best sedan no matter what engine= liters, and diesel/ petrol.

My Ride: Arrived 3 June 2005: 2005 545i - Orient Blue, Black interior, Sport, Steptronic, Cold Weather, NAV, Sirius, Logic7, Comfort Seats, Sunshades. What a glorious ride!
Infinity M45, Audi A6, Acura RL, Jaguar XJ (VERY briefly), MB E500, Cadillac STS.
Had the 545i Sport not been invented by BMW, I probably would have ended up with the Caddy or perhaps the Acura. But for me the gap between either of these autos and my 545i is vast.

I must have little imagination because I really didn't look at anything other than BMW. During the 90s I had mostly Lexuses and in 2000 swithced into Bimmers. I really enjoyed the M5 but I find the 550 to be very satisfying - fast also.
Unless something really changes, I doubt that I would buy anything else. I do know I'm glad to be out of the 745Li.

Just curious to know what you guys looked at as possible options (if any!) when you were first on the market for your bimmer 5 series??
Mercedez? Lexus? Anything ???

E500, CLK 500 Cabriolet, A6 4.2 then I drove the 545. Done. My wife liked the E500 and the Cab, but we needed more space than the Cab offered. As for the E500 aside from the 545 out performing it, well we are in our 30's not 60's. I liked the A6 but not as much as the 545.

My Ride: 2008 Sapphire Black on Black M5 - loaded sans soft close doors
Had a 2003 GS430, drove the new one -same thing, just as isolated, and not fun. Not even faster.
Test drove an A6 4.2 with sport package - but the ordered it with the wood steering wheel - something I hate with a passion. Worse you lose the heated steering wheel with that option. Also car was underpowered.
Drove the M45 - loved this car. Hated the interior wood color as well as the alumnium cube look. Plus it was 95% of the BMW ride and I really wanted 100%. So I then went back and forth between the 330 and 550 for about a month and ended up with the 550. There, end of story

Considered all the usual suspects but narrowed it down to the M3, A6 or E60. The spy pics were all I had to go from at the time but I took the chance and never regreted it.
