I considered the A6 as well as the Volvo S80. The wife is due for a new ride and is choosing between a 325i and Volvo S60.

I test drove the Infinity M45, Audi A6, S4, 545i, Acura RL, and e90 330i. I finally decided on the 330i with all the bells and whistles, and ordered one. But when I found out there was going to be an engine switch, and the e90 330 was going away, and I found a 550i just as I would have specified it on the showroom floor, well that was it. I love the 3 series, but the 5 fits me better and I am intoxicated by the power and torque of the 550. The Acura was a dog; the A6 didn't do much for me; the S4 was a step down from my M3; and I did not like the handling of the Infinity. Hard to go from a BMW to other brands that do not handle nearly as well.

The e60, specifically the 545, was the natural progression for me from the e46. No other car manufacturer was even considered.

Coming from a Porsche, but looking for more comfort, in first place I was considering the new Jaguar XK, but then I would have had to wait till now (June) to get one delivered and I had second thoughts about buying an all-new aluminium car from a company not having much experience with this technology, with only 300hp at a much higher price, so I at least postponed the Jag until the XKR version appears. Then I briefly considered a CLS 500, but didn?t like the MB interior and the old 306hp engine (which will be replaced in autumn by the new 5.5 380hp engine, but still there is the fact, that my wife stated the CLS to be an "old men`s car", which pretty much closed the MB discussion for me).
So, now I will stick happily with my E60 for a couple of years, then maybe I will take a look at a then hopefully better designed 6-series (I like the front and interior of the current model, but just can?t stand the ugly rear).

Considered Lexus and MB especially the new ML, but the drive of a Beemer is no match !!! However nickolas_q is right about these bimmer dealers - they ALL have an attitude problem - but maybe thats their marketing tactic ????

Saab was seriously considered, mainly because my wife has one which has been 100% fault free in 1.5 years of ownership & gets 45+ Mpg ( diesel ).

E39 530i, E90 330i.
I wanted a smaller car, but my wife said we need a family car! Ok, test drove E60, loved it bought it. I still think 330i was a great car though.

Before the e60, I was looking at 330ci coupe and cabrio full loaded, than for some weeks Touareg, but I know it was the only good decission on E60 I have sat in that before and even that time there were some new mods coming so in May 2005 we bought it and never regret any penny spent on E60 is the best sedan no matter what engine= liters, and diesel/ petrol.
