Just curious to know what you guys looked at as possible options (if any!) when you were first on the market for your bimmer 5 series??
Mercedez? Lexus? Anything ???

I started out with a Nissan Murano. No fun and I don't really like SUVs. I'm a sedan/coup man. Plus have a Jeep in reserve if the world goes to hell. 
Then I was looking at the Lexus IS 350. High cost for a car based on a Toyota Carolla. Looked at Acuras, nice cars, and have owned two, but just not what I was looking for. I looked then at the Lexus GS, too boring of a body design.
Briefly looked at Merc and saw the Chrysler hidden inside. Especially lately with their reliability falling off the charts.
Finally test drove the 5 at a local dealer. It was over. I was done for.
I only procrastinated in that I was picky in finding the right dealer. And after five dealers I must say the folks at JMK in NJ are good people. 
The other folks (Prestige, Open Road) came across as "I really don't care about your business" or sleezy and more cheezy than a box of Velveeta.
Two weeks later I ordered mine special just for me.

My Ride: 545i - ordered in January delivered April 21st! Black Sapphire Metallic, Black Dakota Leather, Anthracite Maple.
Audi S4 - after test drive was dissapointed with the pace of it. Test drove the A6 and was dissapointed by the sticker price and dealer discounts and finance rates.

Have driven 2-door 3 series (inc. 2 M3's), so 5-series was 1st choice when going to 4-door. However, seriously looked at Mercedes E500's since similar specs on paper and similar trick-techno features, but still not the same drivers car!
Now that I'm driving the 545, very glad I stayed w/ BMW.

I drove the A6 4.2 and really liked it and was ready to do the deal, then on the way home I stopped at the BMW dealer. Drove the 550i and there was no comparison in my mind, pure pleasure to drive this car. This is from someone that is used to driving a 911C4S all the time except when it snowed and the BMW came in very close.
