Motor Trend Comparison: 2008 BMW M3 vs. 2008 Lexus IS F vs. 2008 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG
There Will Be Blood: We take three fast, new-to-market, bloodthirsty sport sedans out to CenCal's oil country

Lap Times (2.74 miles)

M3 - 154.2 sec.

C63 - 158.0 - 3.8 sec. back

IS-F - 158.6 - 4.4 sec. back

1st Place
BMW M3
Speed, balance, and athleticism converge in today's best compact, high-performance sport sedan.

2nd Place
MERCEDES-BENZ C63 AMG
A solid, emotive machine that works as everyday transport-and accelerates like a first-gen Viper.

3rd Place
LEXUS IS F
Lexus's first effort in this category is a good one, lacking in only the finest of details.

I think Benz should be able to close the gap more, when the 2009 C63 hit the showrooms. With the 2009 model C63, you will be able to option the new AMG Performance Package "P30". You can't get this option on the 2008 C63's.

P30 Perferformance Package:

-composite brake system
-raised limiter to 186 mph
-stiffer suspension 15-20%
-limited slip differential

it can strip and run naked, still it wont cut through corners as the M3

I agree, but it should help. The C63 is a heavier car too.

M3 is just a gem! Clear winner of the segment, as always.

M3vsC63
This is the part where were a BMW enthusiast would say, "See, BMW is better in twisties." But larger displacements still wins in straightline acceleration. Look at the quartermile times.

Great read - thanks for posting it BMW just has the M3 down...the competition has been trying to knock it off of 1st place for quite some time now...and it just keeps getting better
