Hi people, anyone here that owns a W211 and feel like sharing experience on reliability, service costs etc compared with the E60?

I've started thinking about where to go next and I pretty much narrowed down my choices to a newer 530d, 535d or a CLS 350. Then I stumbled over the E420CDI and although I'm not a fan of the w211 exterior I have to say the tuning potential indicated by Kleemann's webpage intrigued me. Close to 400hp/900nm is just insane...

I know a remapped 535 hauls some serious ass as well so considering that my 530 has been bulletproof to date, another E60 will probably be my choice but I've always liked the luxury-feeling of the MBs so there's still a small possibility I'm going down that road.

I'm aware the 420 probably will handle like a dead pig on the road but coming from Audis with V8s I'm used to that and a little modding will probably give a decent handling so it's not a big concern. What concerns me though is the reliability of the airmatic system, the 7 speed AT and the crapload of electronics in these cars, so any encouraging or disencouraging words that could tip the scale even more in any direction would be appreciated.

Cheers

Diesels or not, in general I think Mercedes are A LOT more reliable than BMW's lol (speaking from ownership)

OK thanks man. What model(s) did you own? I was considering an E320CDI before getting my current ride and back then everyone told me to get a -06 or later as most issues were fixed on those but still when looking at benzworld and those places there seem to be quite some ranting about Airmatic and people saying there are "issues" with the 7Gtronic.
