I heard that the E500 engine is going to change to keep up with the new 550i.. same goes to other 5 litre benz models.

Do you have any numbers/figures?

The new 750i has 361 hp and 360 lb-ft of torque so i'm guessing the 550i will be the same.

By the way there's a pic of a Red RS4 on Motor Trend's website i like the Audi Rep / Model (brunette) too!

Also, don't forget that the M5 has a NATURALLY ASPIRATED V10 whereas the E55 has a blown (supercharged) V8. That means A LOT more HP can be obtained w/ the M5 with a few mods (turbos/supercharger). I can imagine a 800+ hp supercharged M5... drool.

Negative. Maybe when i'm 60ish.

Starting with 05 models MB dropped the free scheduled maintenance making it even more expensive to own/maintain.

Mercedes' drivers tend to be nose heavy. I know a guy who thinks his 03 CLK320 is better than ANY BMW.

BMW drivers are tech savvy, better looking and have superior DNA.

Besides it's nice to know what you're potentially up against.

HAHA LOL, oh my god! a CLK320 better than any BMW!!? now THAT is humor.
When I took a trip to Santa Monica in LA, me and a buddy decided to rent a CLK500 for four days, cause we wanted a convertible. (they didnt have any 645ci's left).
Well, the car was comfortable, had only 3000k on it, but drove like a POS!!! I mean really! Ive driven Cadillacs and SUV's and others that are floaty, I didnt mind them... but that CLK REALLY sucked! it handled like a wheel barrow, and sounded like a box of nails were rolling around in the doors and trunk. Had lots of power, ill give it that, but didnt have the suspension to turn it, nor the brakes to stop it. Which is much like the E55, a $100k+ costing 'sports' sedan and there is nothing sporty about except for a supercharger in it.
I have always appreciated the competition, because i keeps BMW where its supposed to be, but tell your friend that a Sebring convertable probably drives better than it.

my 2 cents, on the CLK's

Yeah, I test drove a CLK500. Aside from the fact that I just can't convice myself that I'll ever like looking at it, the driving experience just didn't do anything for me.

Don't forget the Audi RS4 with 414 hp.? Car and Driver just did a quick 2-pager on it.? They claim it will go for about $55K.? While driving it in Germany, they ran it up to 168mph.?

C&D are WAY offf with that price.. maybe they meant the S4???

.....in the new autoweek write up, http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=102424 they call it a possible answer to the M3 and they say that the RS4 will cost $78K!!!! who they hell would pay that much for that car?

Woooooo $78K!!! I was expecting like $55K! I guess I can throw the RS4 out of my equation... for that much I'll save a little more and get a M5!

Car and Driver did print "start" at $55K, but I agree, it doesn't make sense that it would be this low considering the cost of the S4. Unless BMW is planning to drive the M3 waaaay up market and offer the twin-turbo R6 at the $50K-ish price point, the RS4 pricing makes no sense.

As nice as the old (current) M3 is, I saw about as many of those as I saw of Honda Accords where I live. I'd rather see BMW keep the M cars more exclusive. Maybe we're seeing a shift in thinking here. BMW already stated that the 3-coupe will be exclusive and ~$10K premium over the sedan. Perhaps the coupe will start at S4-level performance with the twin-turbo R6 and not offer less powerful engines. Either way, at the price point they are quoting in the states for the coupe, I don't doubt that the M3 with be quite a bit more, and possibly as high as the pricing figures we're hearing for the RS4.
