Ok, ok, ok we've all been raving about the 535d, 545i and New M5.
Has anyone been keeping tabs on our arch rivals at Mercedes Benz?
It would be nice for BMW to make an M3 saloon with a V8 to take on the C55!
Will the E500 get an updated V8 soon to pace the 550i?
Are they gonna tweak the E55 to take on the New M5?

Negative. Maybe when i'm 60ish.
Starting with 05 models MB dropped the free scheduled maintenance making it even more expensive to own/maintain.
Mercedes' drivers tend to be nose heavy. I know a guy who thinks his 03 CLK320 is better than ANY BMW.
BMW drivers are tech savvy, better looking and have superior DNA.
Besides it's nice to know what you're potentially up against.

Mercedes has quality problems out the wazoo. I had a 2003 E500, and it was truly a POS. I've NEVER had so much trouble with a car in my life. Not just little stuff, either- I'm talkin' about stuff like rear differentials, shocks, radios, central computers, headlights, taillights, etc. Plus, the thing was simply a toad compared to my 545i SP.
Never again!

Don't forget the Audi RS4 with 414 hp. Car and Driver just did a quick 2-pager on it. They claim it will go for about $55K. While driving it in Germany, they ran it up to 168mph. Who knows when we'll see a new RS6, but with this new engine to work with it will be well in excess of 500 hp blown. Heck, the old one was 450.
Cadillac just showed a special STS (same class as the 5 series) with a supercharged LS2 (Corvette engine) producing 505 hp and 520 lb ft of torque. Can you say M5 competition? I can't imagine they won't produce it since they seem to be serious about competing in the M3 space with the CTS-V.
