One word: MARKETING.
If you hear it enough times, read it enough times and are told it enough times ... you will begin to believe it as gospel.

BMW markets its cars as the "Ultimate Driving Machine" and creates this aura and expectation within the mind of the consumer/buyer that that is what its cars are all about -- regardless of whether it is true or not.

And, I'm curious ... in all of your test drives, were you really able to discern the handling characteristics of each car (e.g. MB 350, Jag S-Type, RL) to such a significant extent as to conclude that "Not one of these cars come near the driving experience of my '06 525i"?

I mean, seriously, none of those cars "come near" the driving experience of the Bimmer? That's quite a statement.
ipse dixit, Well done!
IMHO as much as my friends here don't like to hear it...there are many good cars out there including Mercedes Benz...

ok, I said it guys...don't hate me

There's nothing really wrong with M-B cars except for one thing -- they're not BMWs...

Different strokes for different folks. The devoted MB drivers say the same thing about our Bimmers. I've always said that the way a car drives/handles isn't so much about statistics, but how it makes you feel when driving the car. Because in the end you are the only one that has to be satisfied. So to say all the other cars are crap is an unfair statement. But I can completely understand why you wouldn't want to shell out over $50,000 for a car that just won't make you happy. Just my .02 cents.

If you want another Bimmer for the wife get her a 3er . Good luck!

MB is a leather couch that was designed first and then they try to fit wheels to it
Couldn't have said it better.
OK, what do you really have against Mercs? Are you simply saying that you prefer not to have a car that starts with luxury (M and adds sport rather than starting with sport (BMW) and adding luxury (assuming that this is the way things are)?

Pretty much, why do you care about what I think about MB anyways?

Curiosity. Your statements about, or reactions to statements about, MB's sometimes seem to imply an extreme opinion so I wondered why. Now that you clarify it appears that your opinion is not as extreme as it sometimes appears. And, in general, I frequently wonder why people have the opinions they do and why they express them as they do. So, as said, I was just curious.

What I love about Bimmers is the intricately weighted and dead on accurate steering wheel. It's not too light nor does it make you struggle to point the car in the direction you want it to go.

Also love it when it takes off even though it may not be the fastest car in its class.

Am I sounding like a BMW propoganda machine?

Saying what you like about your car makes sense to me. And, it feels good to read it--very positive and uplifting. No negativity.

Well to satisfy your curiosity, I only get the most enjoyment from my car when I drive it. I am those that actually like Recaro seats over comfort seats and don't mind hearing the engine noise while I am driving. I feel I am more of a driver than a passenger so if you ask me luxury or sport, I would say sport. Having said that I would still go test drive MB when they have a new model out. But test drive only though
