I've been driving BMW's since 1996. What made us buy the E60 ? Is it a
character thing, does your car history suggest a trend towards dynamic performance driving , did you suddenly become rich and decided BMW is the one
that represents you ? What are the owner's comment's ?

History and comments ( always for fun and interest ), for me :
started driving at 17, since then had:

Audi 80 FOX
Volvo 164
Ford Falcon ( 302 Windsor ) Holley 550 4 barrel ( 5.0 litre ) WOW!! Petrol guzzler..
Nissan 200B stationwagon ( what was I thinking? )
Ford Escort 1.6
Alfa Romeo Sprint QV ( nice )
Alfa Romeo 145
Maserati 222 ( maintanance freak )

at this point I got a good job....result :

E36 318i ( good )
E46 328i current ( better )
E60 545i on order ( )

For me, the E46 328i has been the most successful car in term of performace,
efficiency, finance...a fine all round performer.
Although I seriously test drove the Mercedes E500, Audi A6 4.2 - they just didn't
do it for me in terms of dynamics and beauty.

The E60 is going to be an awesome car ...I predict I will always stay a BMW man

Ok, I'll weigh in on this one...

Started driving at 16...

1987 Chevrolet Beretta GT. 2.4l V6, digital dash.. what a great little car
1991 Chevrolet Lumina Z34 3.4l V6, Big lumbering, piece of crap
1993 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.5l V6. A great Sedan... I liked the Dodge so much...
1995 Dodge Intrepid ES Same as above, except blue.
1998 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.5l V6, new body style...

finally completely outdone with American styling... I went and testdrove a Lexus IS300, the MB C, and finally a BMW 3....

2001 BMW E46 325i Yummy... now that's what I was looking for all along
2004 BMW E60 525i By far, the best car I have ever driven. You will love it!

Other fun cars I have availiable to drive...
1923 Ford Model-T Touring Car. (3 pedals, and none of them are the accelerator!!!)
1971 Jaguar XKE 4.2 Roadster that my father and I have restored. (That which I measure all sports autos by)

Believe me, you don't want to hear it all. Initial enchantment began sitting on the back seat of Uncle Ray's 1932 Buick. When I was 12, learned to drive on a '36 tudor Ford. Have had an inveterate attraction to cars ever since. Drove less than I could afford most of the way so I am able to drive what I want well into retirement. Never promised anybody I would grow up.

I have been pretty consistent through the years

1970 BMW 1600
1976 BMW 2002
1981 BMW 320i
1986 Volvo Wagon - kids
1987 BMW 325e
1990 525i
1993 4-runner
1995 BMW 525i
1987 325e - for kids
2004 BMW 545i

Still have 1995 525i, 1993 4-runner, 1987 325e & 2004 545i - each has been a wonderful car, but only one really kicks @ss!

great topic..

my history goes

Vauxhall (opel) Nova SRi
Renault Clio 16v (fab to drive, poor quality led to sale)
Peugeot 306 (BORING)
VW Golf VR6 (first perf.car, great performance, handled like a sack of potatoes)
Peugeot 306 GTi6 (great performance, rattled like an octogenarians chest)
Renault Megane Coupe (nice looks, a bit gay though)
A4 Estate (attempt at being serious - really dull, built well though)
Merc c230 Kompressor (handled like the queen, went like kylie)

Now into BMW territory - reasons (tried Audi and MB, fancied a change..)

3 series 325i (great quality and handling, but after the MB lacked torque, felt it was a step backwards)

3 series 330i (much better but by now every sod had one, more common that mondeo)

3 series coupe 330 smg (lovely, first real "hit" with BMW, SMG a mistake tough, sold for more performance, by then 230 bhp just not enough!

3 series E46 M3 (last tango in paris. a classic, a riot, outrageous performance, just got too much for a poor old 40 year to handle every day. Ideally would have kept it as a weekend car, however, fiancnces don't allow.

5 series 545i - (fabo performance, image much better, quality great, handling a bit more pace car rather than race car..still enjoying

Next car - hoping that BMW release a turbo version of the 330i, c 350bhp, more refined than new M3/M4 but still pretty quick - who knows

reason for staying with BMW - taking the design initiative, we live in a world of followers, engines, handling, transmissions - all top draw. One area for improvement is interior materials, but not about to depart to Audi, yet!

Been driving for 14 years, although I have only "owned" three cars in that time, the rest have been company cars, however, in terms of reasonable length of ownership I've had

1995 Ford Fiesta (nasty, nasty, nasty)
1995 BMW 3 series (not bad, but poverty spec., manual 2.5td)
1998 Merc SLK (very pretty, wonderful roof, but dynamically average)
2004 My 5er! Easily the best car I have owned

1993 325is (graduation present from the parents..loved that car)

2002 Toyota Land Cruiser (still have, gas guzzler but great for the winters in new york)

2004 E60-530i (paid for this one myself, and boy have I driven this baby to its full potential... )
