So everyone know what the 535d is all about...272bhp and 560NM of torque. 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds. It was stated as the fastest diesel in the world (factory of course). In the battle with touareg v10 tdi and audi 4.0 tdi quattro and seat ibiza cupra r 1.9 tdi (160 bhp) the 535 came out on top.
Now there's a new rival. The new 4.2 tdi audi with 326 bhp and 650 NM with a 0-100km/h time os just 5.9 seconds.
So obviously as hard it is for me to addmit the audi will be faster from 0-100 but whar do you think from 100km/h on...?
On a track who do you think will come out on top? I bet the bmw, but not because i own one, but because the audi is 200kilos heavier even though it is more powerfull and it ain't got that revvy diesel like the 535d has (the peak power is optained in the audi at 3750 revs). Wonder how the turbos are on this V8? It's not the same as in the 535d is it? Just one turbo for each line of cylinders of the v8.
I suspect that on a track (normal track like Suzuka or Valencia) the 535 would come on top.
What do you think?
Orrrr you can chip the 535d and this whole topic won't be needed anymore....

An Audi is NOT a BMW...which is why we all have E60's and the dealers at Audi dont have our money..
Out of the german 3, i think its BMW, MB, Audi in that order

Why do Audi produce such a fast diesel A8 and not a really fast diesel A6???? I don't get it!!!!!
The 535d and Audi A8 4.0TD has been tested by Autocar (UK Mag)
535d
0-60mph (100km/h) in 6.0 secs
0-100mph (160km/h) in 15secs
A8 4.0 litre TD
0-60mph in 6.4 secs
0-100mph in 17.6 secs
I should imagine if the new A8 has a turbo configuration like the 535d then it will beat it. If it only has turbo boost for initial pull and a narrowish power band then it will only be faster 0-60 and not as quick to 100mph. Those of you with a 535d know why that second turbo is fitted

You can find the full slate of numbers for the new A8 4.2 TDI here, and at least from that article, it appears that the 0-100 km/h is 5.9 seconds:
From the article/PR:
The A8 4.2 TDI quattro has the performance of a top athlete.
This lightweight luxury saloon with its aluminium body takes only 5.9 seconds to sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h ? making it quicker than any other diesel saloon on the international market. It is capable of a governed top speed of 250 km/h. The torque gives the driver a feeling of pulling power in every speed range that is otherwise only to be experienced in a sports car. 650 Newton-metres between 1,600 and 3,500 rpm ? this figure makes the A8 4.2 TDI quattro the Audi with the most torque of them all.
One thing holding the A8 back is the 4-wheel drive system, which is heavy, heavy, heavy and oh did I mention it is heavy?

On a track? I?d put my money on the BMW- not only because the Audi is 200kg heavier, but because most of the weight is on the front axle which makes for some decent understeering. BTW: that?s why I?m pretty sure I don?t want a V8 diesel in my E61!

Audi's official figures are exaggerated, I read a test somewhere where it did 0-62 in 6.2/6.3 and we all know that 0-62 in 6.5 is an underestimation of the BMW's capabilities. If it does 0-60 in 5.8 as in this test, 62 wouldnt come much later.
