And it's a diesel, although i dunno how much more economical it's going to be. I was in a Q7 3.0 tdi and it read 16.5 in city drive.
Anyway....the figures are impressive 500bhp and 1000NM wow. We need that engine or smth similar in a 5 series
Just dreaming....m5? Maybe not.
Now i wonder how much time till bmw will offer a v8 biturbo diesel in the 5 series?! Just a thought, considering how fast diesel technology evolves.

bettermakeway, only problem is the engine so far is limited to the q7...reason being than NO Audi so far has an engine bay large enough to accomodate this.. hell its 166mm longer than the largest engine currently fitted to the a8, the 4.2tdi

The only thing with a 6l v12 diesel is the weight! It may be a powerful fast engine but put it (or similar) into a 5 series and try to throw it around a track and you'll find the corners are more dificult to handle! Just look at the 535d compared a similar 5 series petrol...
I'd have one, thats for sure though ;-)

I was thinking that's a problem (size and weight).
Not to mention the coolign needed for this.

They have to try more with the research in materials, cuz the actual generation is still too heavy and the next one isn't such a colossal progress either (only 20kg in weight). If they ever think about a v8 diesel i agree they have a problem with weight. 535d compared to a 530i is a pig, that's for sure. The v8 petrols closes in with lil more weight than an L6 petrol but still lighter.
