2007 U.S. sales of the Audi S5 from September though December were only 625 units (about 150 per month).

This is a slower pace than even the hard-to-sell BMW M5 (about 160 per month), and well behind the sales pace of 500 units per month of the BMW 550. The BMW 6 series sells about 750 units per month.

Why the slow pace of this hot new Audi? Is Audi limiting supply?

By the way, there were 240 Audi R8s sold during this same time.
Pretty sure it's a supply limitation with the S5 being new to the market. When I was looking at an S6 early last year I had the same issue, I had real trouble getting hold of one as there just weren't enough available and even fewer destined for the US market. 2008 should see supply increase on the S5.

My Ride: 545i - ordered in January delivered April 21st! Black Sapphire Metallic, Black Dakota Leather, Anthracite Maple.

Drove it and really considered it but headroom was very tight and it felt a little underpowered about 4,000 rpm. I think they made the throttle very touchy so it gave the impression it had more power - I am not a huge awd fan due to its efficiencies. Price came out closer to $58K, a little high in my opinion.
Love the interior, exterior, MMI, and seats - in almost every way is was "cosmetically" better than BMW. In the end I ordered a new BMW.

Looking for opinions on the S5.

Why should I buy this as opposed to the A8?

The new A8 looks just like my old A8 and I'm thinking I should go for something with more eye appeal and excitement.

Plus I love having a standard transmission in a car that is not tiny, which I have missed since 1999.

But will the S5 be like the handsome boyfriend I just dumped? Gorgeous and exciting at first, but not someone I want to stick with because the excitement wore off when I got tired of the upkeep?

Nope I meant BOYFRIEND.

Gorgeous, sexy, self-centered, whiney, and very high upkeep...

I just looked at that...

I have not driven a rear wheel car since, oh, if I told you I'd have to kill you.. just kidding.

It has REAR WHEEL drive. I need at least front wheel if not AWD.
