September's Frankfurt Motor Show is shaping up to be an Audi extravaganza, thanks to recent reports which indicate the company will unveil four vehicles at the show.
Besides debuting the redesigned A8 and the new A5 Sportback, Audi is expected to show the highly anticipated R8 Spyder and a R8 electric vehicle concept. Like the coupe, the R8 Spyder will be offered with a 4.2-liter V8 with 420 hp or a massive 5.2-liter V10 with 525 hp.
Details on R8 EV are scarce, it remains unclear if the concept will be a pure electric vehicle or a more contemporary gasoline-electric hybrid. While the chances of production are minimal, Audi probably wants to demonstrate they know alterative powertrains aren't always diesels.

It looks like last week's rumor of a Frankfurt-bound, electric Audi R8 might be a case of wishful thinking. Edmunds is reporting that an Audi representative has resoundly denied the reports.
Last week, we told you about the rumors swirling around the German automaker's upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show showcase. In addition to the debuts of the new A5 Sportback and new generation A8, we were hearing talk of the R8 Spyder taking a bow side-by-side with an electric R8 concept. The sources we sited include Auto Motor und Sport and L'Automobile.
Although the R8 EV was brushed off as "not true" by the North American Audi rep, the R8 convertible was pretty much re-confirmed for the Frankfurt show. That car will come with either a 420 hp 4.2-liter V8, or a 5.2-liter V10 pumping out a massive 525 horsepower.
Although, North American reps aren't always "in the loop" with what is being developed in Germany, we're still hoping to see an Audi R8 electric sometime in the near future, just to see what the German automaker is capable of creating.
