AMG is reportedly dropping its 6.2 liter normally-aspirated powerplant in favor of a 5.5 liter turbocharged unit.

Little bit of a shame as I'd praised AMG in the past for sticking with normally-aspirated engines while the competition had effectively migrated to forced induction but it seems AMG has decided to follow the pack. Will be interesting to see the specs on this new engine.

it's the fuel economy. You can get more power yet 3-5 better mpgs w/FI over a larger NA engine

I know Steve's well aware that AMG used to supercharge their cars. I think his point is that they went away from that and started using NA engines and he had hoped they would stick on that path but now they're going the turbo route. Not exactly the same as supercharging but FI nonetheless.

It would make sense if this was the statement:

"Little bit of a shame as I'd praised ///M in the past for sticking with normally-aspirated engines while the competition had effectively migrated to forced induction but it seems ///M has decided to follow the pack. Will be interesting to see the specs on this new engine."

IMO

Not at all, ///M had already made it very clear that it was headed solely down the forced induction path a while back, but MB had planned to hold firm with the 6.2 liter engine used in the E63, C63 and others. In prior posts discussing ///M's decision to adopt FI, there's been plenty of discussion from me and others noting that only MB was staying the course with normal aspiration in its most important models. Yesterday's news changes that, hence the posts...

really? I don't read all the interviews and usually get all my news 3rd hand. But I assumed MB was going to supercharge the 63 and bump the HP, like they essentially supercharged their 5.4 litre in the 2002 MY E55. Going from 349hp-516
I just assumed the 63(don't have the #'s) would go from 600-800 or whatever.

On the other hand I was literally shocked though when ///M anounced FI
