I have not driven the new M45. When I was looking to purchase a new car last year a dealer in Orlando was unloading them for about $6000 under sticker. I test drove one and liked the power, the gadgets and the price. I then went down the street and went into the BMW dealership. THe 545 had just arrived and the only car was the sales managers. I drove it down the same exact road. I probably paid twice as much for my 545 but I'm at least four times as happy.

The new 05 M45 has upped the ante, the previous M45 looked like the 2nd generation Q45 or a Caddy Deville!

The first time I saw the M45 in person was at the L.A. Autoshow. I must say, my first impression of the M45 was just pure disappointment. I went in with an open mind having read many articles about it. Don't get me wrong, it is a decent car but I guess I was expecting more. It just looked and felt cheap to me. I was worried that I would like it more than my e60 but I immediately wiped away those worries as I approached the car

I am a satisfied BMW 545 owner, but I would say that the M45 is going to be good competition. I already had friends who traded their 330 ci coupes for G35 coupes last year, and they are very satisfied. Infiniti is serious about performance, more so than any other brand out there, except for BMW. Infiniti makes great engines, the only problem they have had is their cheap interiors. Technology-wise, the M45 competes well, and its interior is very nice.
The competition for BMW in this segment is fierce: the E500, A6, STS, new GS, and now the M45. They are all getting more powerful and adding more features. Guess who is the most expensive?
All this competition is good for us, the consumer. And for BMW, they must realize that they cannot rest on their laurels. The last 5 series was the best car there is, but now the competition is catching up. Only time will tell if BMW was up to the challenge, and whether it can hold on as the segment leader.
