well, technically the audi has a 3.1 255 hp engine.

Torque is greater in the 530i, even though the audi has a higher peak torque.? It still is a rev's to reach it's power and it's torque comes on higher in the range.

The new 3.0 from BMW has the strange ability to have the power of of a push rod type engine, but then have the great low end torque.? It's quite a marvel, and in my opinion, it's a more hightech engine then the audi a6 3.1? opps 3.2:)

I have not raced an Audi, but I would say the 530i should beat out the audi in the drag strip.

I'm not positive, but I imagine the BMW is lighter than the Audi too.

Yes. That race shouldn't have been close. Perhaps you didn't "hit the gearing" to make the most of the power??

I know we're talking about the 3.2, but I'd expect the new 2006 530i to be awfully close to the 4.2 in performance - probably a bit faster. Car and Driver tested the new 4.2, it did 0-60 in 6.4 seconds - that's the same as BMW's estimate for the 530i (and that's a very conservative estimate). It is possible that it pulls harder at certain RPM than a 6 cylinder engine, but if you could keep the 530i in the sweet spot it should hand the 4.2 its ass every time. The same article claims a 130mph limiter, but I don't know if that holds true in EU.

My money is on the one you raced being chipped.

. Now try that Audi out vs a new 550i and the 550i would be all over his ass.?

Forgive my ignorance. Are you sure about that?

i though that the audi would be smeling 550 tail. I still remember from physics that if some one is in front of me..i will be behind :)

550 should smoke it ..
i raced the S4 (although Cab) from standing start and took him by the time 60 was out the way..
and yes, that was before DMS remap.

i have no problems with the A6 or even the S4 but before the mods my 530i would get eaten up, but keep in mind mine had stock 231hp so i needed the Super charger to be as fast as the 545i or the 550i

mr_djurgarden 10-14-2005 07:44 AM

I think the 530 is faster then the audi

I was heavily predisposed to buying the A6 3.2 prior to deciding on and ordering the 530 a few weeks ago. I loved the look of the redesigned A6, the reviews were compelling, and the E60 had not initially appealed to me. The Mercedes products were unappealing, and the new GS300, the only other car I strongly considered, also failed to generate any great need to own.

I drove a previous gen A6 (1999) for three years to 2001 and very much enjoyed the experience - except for the quite limited performance via the 2.8L 200HP engine. I next bought a G35 to compensate...and that was a great car for the small amount of money it cost. I missed the refined interior and that tank feeling, though.

Now, after driving the new A6 and the 530, there was such a marked difference even in the "real-life" stop and go driving that I normally do that there was no further thinking required.

After driving the E60 though (and my two test drives were embassingly short and in heavy traffic), I was a quick convert to its charms, and now I actually prefer its look, both interior and exterior, and am anxiously awaiting delivery (while my dealer has lent me a Mini).

If an A6 3.2 is marginally faster than a 06 530, from a stoplight, for a while, does it matter? I would be far more concerned if an A6 were safer, tighter, or had a better stereo!

No no no!

Please read... the Audi 4.2 is only capable of 0-60 in 6.4 seconds. The new 2006 530i is listed by BMWNA as being able to reach 60 in 6.4 seconds. This is pessimistic as it will do better. Superiority over a 3.2 is not in dispute - at least not in my mind. Even the 3.2L A4 is heavier than the 530i.

I was on the autobahn earlier this evening and I was next to an Audi A6 3.2.? He took off and I took off and he won.? I really could not keep up floored.? We were doing 80 to start of with.? I caught up to him when I hit 140mph as I think Audis are governed at 130mph.

"he took off and then you took off." That tells me that there was a least 1 second lag time between the take offs at higher speed. So how could you win? Next time, take off at the same time or before him.

With 2 equal cars, the principle behind street racing at high speed is that the guy that guns it first (usually behind you) has the advantage. Now if you are neck and neck, you let the hot head pass you up (cause' he'll slow down to irritate you). At the moment, you floor the pedal (sort of catch him off guard for a least a second).

In semi-crowded road, the betterr driver is the one that knows the condition road better.
