To be fair Hyundia have been making/selling some reasonable cars for a number of years in the UK, nothing like the early built under license templates they started with, anybody remember the Hyundia Stellar ?? Was basically a badly made Ford Cortina under that fugly skin lol.

The Genesis is not a joke. I drove one before getting an e60. In some ways it has a more refined drive than the e60, but of course it doesn't have the handling edge, and yet it is not a soft car. Its somewhere between a BMW and Lexus in terms of handling and driving feel. In terms of passenger room, its huge, like a 745 or s class. I would rather drive a Genesis than a Mercedes E class.

Yah, I think that on prestige alone, a lot of people will continue to bag on Hyundai. But the truth is, they are making solid cars now, with one of the best warranty in the industry.

I saw a Genesis on the road a few weeks back, and I was absolutely puzzled. Like others have said the design closely resembles MB, and hints of Lexus. Pretty dashing design actually.

And I want to make a comment about cars in Korea... when I traveled to Korea, I was told by the locals that foreign cars has ridiculous tariffs and taxes. It's S. Korea's way of encouraging their citizens to buy domestic.

On that note, I was also told that if you see a foreign car, they're most likely someone of influential nature such as politician, celebrity, athlete, etc. And they definitely get special treatment as well. Should a foreign car run a red light, police pretend they don't see a thing.

Let's be real, here in America there is a stigma attached to the Hyundai and Kia names. As I have said before, they aren't cars you go out intentionally to buy, they are the ones you end up with when your credit is denied for a better car. The Genesis follows the same line, the styling is SO close to Merc and our beloved E60's that it is the perfect car for you if you wear a Rolecks, and insist on Armini suits.

I just test drove a Genesis yesterday just for the heck of it. My dad was curious how those things performed so we both test drove one. AMAZING is all I can say. This is first hand from a non-magazine person. That thing was as quiet as a Lexus, sporty enough as a MB, but handling is obviously nowhere near our E60s. The interior quality was pretty decent, something that you wouldn't think would come from a Hyundai.

Now I still can't justify the $40k tag on those things, I'd rather get a 3 series than the Genesis with that amount of money.
