probably just a couple of years, it really doesn't matter if the 550 is faster than a E550, marketing wise its the 382 hp that matter, MOST car owners just consider the Hp ratings as the ultimate "fastness" factor and buy the car with that in mind, so BMW will probably have to deliver a 385-400 hp engine soon (maybe just a re retuning of the 4.8 L).

tnx

Are there any less 5.0 liter engine that can put out more than stock 400 HP? If the price of gas continues to increase at the current rate, only the very elite that buys these cars for leisure can afford them.

What an article!! Do they make one or retrofit one for the US 4.4 liter? When my car gets old, this is what I want to do to my 545i. I didn't know ALPINA was so involved with BMW.
I thought you'd like the engine--4.4 liters and all. I didn't know much about Alpina and its connection to BMW either until recently. I really like the B5. I had read that Dinan would not be trying to supercharge the Valvetronic engines because of the difficulty of doing so. But, Alpina obviously knows how. Of course, the article mentions that Alpina uses some BMW parts and some Alpina parts. Maybe the Alpina parts take care of the issue. I would be highly surprised if Alpina markets a ready retro fit for the 545i. I searched online for a Phoenix Alpina dealer, but have not yet turned one up. I'm going to look Alpina up in the yellow pages eventually. Phoenix/Scottsdale has a dealership for pretty much every decent auto one has heard of. Also, apparently the new M3 is going to have a 400 HP V-8.

I don't think BMW ever really had the most HP in it's class in any of it's cars but it makes up for it everywhere else so I don't think the 550i is getting any upgrades after that. even though the Benz had 22HP over the 550i it's still weighs alot more So no worries.

MB is making an American size V8, what does that mean?

Do they mean they will pull a V8 out from the Chrysler stock room and announce to the public "Ladies and Gents, may I present the MB 300M"
