It just dawned on me today that the car has to save or cache the data in some way because it keeps track of the "Top 8" and "Redial" lists which are not a function of the phone...

The car saves the phonebook (up to 4 of them) until you delete the device from the Bluetooth menu.

But... you need to have that phone in order to view the phonebook.

Once again Rudy, you are correct.
The Treo650 doesn't have a Top 8 either.

Yes I too believe that the car does download the phone book to the cars memory... One other thing to note is Voice Dialing. That is saved into the car if you set it up. Make sure you delete all that by saying *Delete phone book*

[quote name='Rudy' date='Aug 30 2005, 07:15 PM']The phonebook does not stay in the car, it stays in the phone.? Without a phone paired, there is no phonebook visible in the car.? If a new owner pairs his/her phone, that phonebook will become the "current" one.

Pretty cool, isn't it?

rudy, i'm not questioning you and i know you are always right. but i'm just wondering does the phonebook stay in the sim card instead of the phone ? i kind of remember someone mentioned they are having problems transferring phonebook to car since the phonebook saved in the phone but after phonebook saved in sim card, it transferred to car flawlessly.

Just paired a Moto V550 to my new 530i. Moto has virtually all my phonebook entries stored to phone, not SIM card. Phonebook transferred seamlessly to the car. There are a couple of pre-loaded phone entries on the SIM card and I didn't notice if they transferred or not...will check next time out. Phone is a tri-band GSM (works in Europe and the US).

Well for the Motorola Razr V3 it doesnt matter. I have one with all the numbers stored on the SIM and it transferred fine, the other where all the numbers are stored on the Phone also transferred fine...

the third phone that is paried to the car is a Motorola V600 and the phone book there is stored on the phone and it transferred fine also.

SOoooooo it seems like for Motorola phones it might not matter where they are stored. You know since motorola built the system for the E60 its most compatiable with Motorola phones...
