Also be aware that there is a new cradle for the V710. Part No. 84 21 0 393 570. Just in case your interested. Obviously with a cradle BMW is saying it is compatible in their eyes.

Do you get the cradle from Verizon or BMW? Is a cradle what most folks use? What is it needed for, I thought the car will automatically detect the phone if you were on your belt then download the phone book. Am I incorrect?

I've been using it for over two months now. It works fine.
The sound quality improved for the 'other end' after my recent software upgrade.
I like the voice commands
I like being able to use my address book on the Idrive
I like being able to hear the phone ringing (i missed many calls while i'm driving due to stereo). The stereo mutes when a call comes in
I keep my phone in my pocket and the car recognizes it without a problem.

Yep. Even the tech was surprised. When he was giving me my first demo/instructions, he pushed the button and there was that sweet sound...ahhhhhh. I wasnt expecting so it was a nice bonus.

So now i can dial by:
1) using the voice command on the phone
2) using the buttons (old fashion way)
3) using the IDrive (address book, top 8, or actual numbers)
4) using the voice command on the car (dial name, dial number, etc)

Cradle from BMW. Used as a convenient way to charge, recharge. But of course u may not need this in ur case. Also connects to external antenna. Again may not be needed in ur case. For me and my use it was the right thing. I had some spots in my normal travels where signal strength dropped off to the point of the phone being unusable. Cradle to antenna connection solved this issue. That alone was worth it. I am not a heavy business user so I do not have to lug the phone around with me at all times so it spends far more time in the car than perhaps many other users would find. So the charging and fixed location is fine with me. U do loose some valuable storage space in the center. So in answer to your question: it depends

I can't get my phone to ring thru the car's speakers. Does yours? If so, which ring style are you using?

It doesn't matter what ring style you use. The phone will ring through the car speakers the same, no matter what your ring style is set to on the phone. I have to say, I waited to get the V710, until the software fix was installed back in February, and it has worked pretty good. Every once in a while when I start the car, the phone doesn't connect with the car via bluetooth, but this happens rarely. I really like the way you can call using voice names and voice numbers - that really impresses the non-BMW friends. Or, you can dial through I-drive, or use the phone to dial also. Many options to chose from. I like it.
