you have a 7/04 car. so afaik, only sw update is good enough. don't let your dealer charge you more than 2 hours labor. or let them know some known problems and have them update the sw for you for free .

You shouldn't need anything beyond a post V13.2 software OS and perhaps a VO (Vehicle Order) software patch specific to your VIN. Otherwise you shouldn't need any hardware change at all.

If you really want to know, check out the part number on your own TCU:

Why don't you think the electronics are there?

I had it retrofitted, for silly money. At the time I couldn't get Bluetooth in combination with Prof. Satnav.

they had to install a microphone in the ceiling, cause I didn't have any. The other piece of hardware is the snap in adaptor.

Software update is only required for US cars. On eurpean cars you need all the parts to be installed which is very costly. It cost flowerfred ?2000 for the retrofit.

The BMW bluetooth is not vey good with the latest phones. You need an old phone like the 6310 or T610 to make full use of all the functions.

I downgraded from a P910 to a T610 and it's still not perfect. Can't use the phone when it's connected to the car, for texts for example. Can't transfer calls from car to phone etc.
I'm thinking of getting a regular carphone for the next car and get an extra number.

E60525d, I was quoted 2000 but it turned out to be around 1600 in the end. Still silly money though..
