Default TCU Unit for 2004 BMW 545i with Mobile Phone Hook Up

Hello - I want to add bluetooth to my 2004 BMW 545i. It has a mobile phone hook up so the mic etc is all there. I am trying to figure out, without much luck, which TCU units would work with my vehicle. Or would any work? Everywhere I go I see a new model number of TCU unit - is there any way to find out which ones are compatible? do some have voice communication features and some don't?

Also, is the install easy? Anyone know of any DIY videos?

Also curious how the BT works - does it connect to the unit directly in the trunk?

Thanks for any help,

Realoem.com and, click enter & put in your vin. Drill down through the menus and you'll find bluetooth TCU part numbers.

I just picked up a used 08 TCU to put in my 04 545. My car already has the prep & voice activation which means the mic is already installed. Hope it will work once I install the upgraded TCU.

Keep us posted with how you get on.
My BT doesn't work either so I need to sort it and am wondering if a prospective new unit will need coded?

Got it installed today. Turns out I need to perform the TCU retrofit procedure. My Indy knows the drill on how to do it but my system needs to be updated. It apparently hasn't need done since 2006 so it's going to take a day. They are doing it for free when I bring my car back in for brakes in a few weeks.
