hopefully I'll be passing on some good news. I have decided to bite the bullet and purchase a TCU. As my iDrive has the bluetooth option, I am assuming that I already have the BT upgrade and need to upgrade my TCU (xxxx921).

I have hopefully found someone that will sell me one "on the cheap".i.e. scrap yard.

The question is that I need to ask for a Specific part number. Does it matter? Looking through the site there is a post with 3 numbers. My current one is neither of the these, therefore are the part numbers dependant on the options fitted to the car?

I have a Euro 2004 530i with Business Nav and the crappy CPT9000 (which the bulky handset is connected via BT, but no other phones work) option #638

Also anyone got pics of a TCU replacement where its worked? Should there anything be plugged in the "blue" socket?? Soo many questions.

I'm gonna find out later today, by taking my boot apart!

YOU NEED TO BE REASONABLY CAREFUL AS TO THE TCU WHICH IS EITHER EURO OR US numbered.
the US numbered TCU are as follows:

There's acctually 3 different TCU's. There's:

84-11-6-942-592 -- in cars produced from 09/03 - 02/04 (MY 2004)
84-11-6-948-921 -- in cars produced from 03/04 - 08/04 (MY 2004)
84-11-6-955-688 -- in cars produced from 09/04 and on (MY 2005)

Now the EURO's are different.

84-64-0-412-551 ths is one of the numbers I got from the www.realOEM.com site. This is the
website for spare parts for BMW?s. But you need to sure exactly what is needed and your specific car.

Id also be interested to get a hold of a EURO TCU ( anything after March 2004 built TCU) for my Australian 2004/June 530i ( on the left hand side of the car). So if U get a hold a spare somewhere from a reckers, and the CTU is correct for a EURO, then Id like to know what it would cost.

Dont forget you may need the iDRIVE UPDATED and possibly a microphone/speaker, so U need to make sure you got all the bits, else BMW will not be real helpful to do the 3hour job.

We live in Interesting times and make sure you take your time with all of this. It doesnt also hurt to ask the BMW dealership as a helpful (I Hope) nand with a serial number/model number for the TCU.

Hard to get TCU's here in Australia.

Thanks for your help. I've already seen this. The iDrive has been updated to a 2006 (identified thanks to this site) as I have mp3 capability. I am confirming the TCU ID as we speak. As for the dealer... they're rubbish.

Took out the trim, Although I didn't take it out, the TCU has a sticker with the date of 19 March 2004 and B788203 Mean anything to anyone?

Also there is a black plastic thing which I think is the Bluetooth antenna. Part number 6918 27701. Am I right?

I am hoping to get the TCU soon I'll keep you posted.... unless I dont need one.

UPDATE:

No cigar I'm afraid. Although I havn't bought a new TCU, I removed mine, and I can see the BT logo on it, which confirms it is BT enabled. However because I have the Professional Phone system, I believe it wont work.

Has anyone else had any sucess. Rudy mentioned getting the prof phone disabled. Anyone done this sucessfully? BMW says it wont make any difference.
