Through a process of trial and error, I discovered that the problem I had with my Nokia E71 bluetooth connection continously dropping and re-establishing itself with my E60, was the fact that my phone contacts list was about 4,000 names.

Out of desperation I wiped my phone and tried the pairing process and lo ad behold - everyting's fine now.

Could anyone out there advise:

1. what is the limit of contacts that a phone can have before the car goes mad?
2. is there a workaround?

Thanks!

There's clearly a memory limitation on the car that prevents an unlimited number of contacts to be received from the phone. I don't think anyone knows any concrete numbers (or memory size) but on my Blackberry, even though I have about 1800 contacts, I don't have issues with pairing, I just don't get a complete phone book transfer.

Nokia phones seem to be the most problematic when it comes to successful pairing with the E60...

When I had the problem of not getting the whole addressbook in iDrive I counted the entries and the maximum was only around 300 numbers (not contacts). If your addressbook is larger than that you will certain names and it is random. That's why I keep my phone in a phoneholder on the dash and use the phone to dial numbers.

Again, it's hard to put an number on the exact total but my car clearly accepts more than 300 numbers from my BlackBerry. I have about 1800 contacts (many of them with multiple numbers) and if I attempt to transfer them all, it goes through the alphabet and stops somewhere in the middle of the letter 'T'. I never counted them but I'm positive that there's much more than 300 in there...

I think if you look closely there will a lot of contacts missing at every letter, the contacts are not transferred sequentially from A to Z bit random.

I'll count the pages of contacts in the iDrive screen again when I have time!

Well it's kind of different with each phone. With my e60 and e71, I have connected and used a bunch of phones with 300+ contacts without any error. They include Sony Ericsson and Nokia Symbian to HTC and O2 Window Mobiles. However, I have the connect and drop problem with 2 phone which are LG KS20 Window Mobile and Nokia N96 Symbian. Strange!!!! I really want to resovled the problem without changing phone because I like my new N96 so much that I don't want to change as of now.

I'm having the same BT drop problems with my brandnew E61 (veah!!) and my Nokia E71 - and I just hate it! I also tried to cut down my contacts from almost 2,000 to now 1,300 - still the same Could you pls tell me what firmware your Nokia has (just dial *#0000# - mine is 100.07.76) and how many contacts you have in you Nokia E71 now (with BT still working)?

Thanks!

I have a 1st Gen iPhone with over 1,400 contacts and they all load. Now a fair number are just e-mail addresses and those don't seem to appear, just the phone numbers. But that still comes to more than 1,000 entries and as far as I can tell they all load but I can't say I've checked every single one. When I first got the iPhone, I did have issues loading only part of the contact list, but I had more the 2,000 entries. Like Rudy I only got part of the alphabet or had glaring gaps in most of the letters. After cleaning out many old and duplicate entries, I got it down to just over 1,400 and it seems to do fine...

it worked!! I updated my E71 with the latest firmware and now no more disconnects, usually in a typical call, disconnects occur after about 2 to 3 mins of talk, but after the update, I had a long conversation through the phone and no more drops!
