For my January 11, 2004 Built 545i - (per Rudy's direction) they listed all options on the vehicle and they were shocked to find that my car listed as having BMW Assist with Bluetooth. The guy at BMW kept saying how odd it was considering most Bluetooth equipped E60's were post March 2004 build dates......he didn't guarantee it but said I may only ned the software update from the dealer to activate BT.

I do have Assist in the car but no BT connections come up if I scroll through Communications on iDrive......also no signal is detected with a BT cellphone.

Any ideas as to these findings?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

If the BMW guy you spoke with is correct, then yes, you can have it software activated -- it won't show up on your screen until it's activated in the software.

I'm a little skeptical of this actually working since you're clearly way early of the 3/2004 cutover date.

It might be fun to see if you can get the dealer to agree to activate it based on the information from BMW (they could verify this themselves) but you should get them to agree to put it back the way it was and not charge you anything if it doesn't work...

Rudy is, as always, correct.

In view of recent new information, I would also check to see if the chasis number is on the SIB that cobradv found. You might be affected by the TCU problem.

rudy thanks, that is what I was thinking and will try.

Is the chassis number the same as the VIN or something completely different......BMW rep did say it could have been a demo for a dealer showing off the assist but couldn't be certain....I just purchased the car with 6,000 miles so I guess I could ask herif she received directly from BMW or if it was a dealer show car or something odd like that.......?

Considering I do show the signal strength bars active on the iDrive menu, the buttons on the wheel for phone (no nav) and assist; should I have a problem if there is no BT and I want to retro fit the CPT9000?

Would seem to me the car is wired for phone if the signal strength meter is active?

Thanks again....desperately want to integrate a phone of some sort as i drive 2.5 hours daily.

Signal strength meter is showing the signal for the BMW Assist phone that comes with all cars.

Your car should be able to use the CPT9000 if BT doesn't work. Unfortunately, they'll have to reprogram the software to disable BT before the CPT will work (which they might have to do anyway...)

The chassis number is the last 7 digits (Alpha/numerical) of your VIN.

Hard to retro CPT9000 unless U find someone getting rid of one. Not sold anymore by BMW and some have said they cannot find on eBay anymore. Probably hit or miss as someone tries to sell off one.
