Do we have to get one of the few phones recommended to pair with bmw bluetooth? I want to buy a samsung u700 and want to know if it will pair with my bluetooth. Anyone know the requirements needed to pair or is it basically a hit or miss?

thanks

I have two different cell phones, one is a Nokia, 2366i, with Verizon, and the other is a Samsung, SPH-M610 with Sprint. Both work great with Bluetooth. I didn't even look to see if they are compatible with the car. I just paired them up and they work fine. Whenever I get into the car they automatically pair. Idrive gives you the option of which phone you want active. It works great!

I would tend to stay away from Samsung. They make more incompatible models (to BMW) than anyone else.

The Samsung problem was driven home to me recently when I assisted Beewang in pairing his Samsung with his new 335i Cabriolet at the Welt.

As I finished pairing, the iDrive crashed.

BMW took the car down to the workshop and 45 min. later someone came up and asked if we by any chance were pairing with a Samsung phone.

When I used the 6230i, the car didn't show the signal strength and the only contacts that transferred were the ones stored on the SIM card...

i had a problem with the samsung sgh-t629 from tmobile. it would pair and work fine with my bluetooth, but the phonebook entries were scrambled and had extra letters in them, regardless of whether they were on the phone itself or the sim card. it also didnt show the signal strength.

ive since started using the motorola rizr z3 and it works flawlessly like my razr used to.

Can confirm the general comments on Samsung phones. I cannot get my A900 to pair with my 550. Will pair up just fine one day then won't work for several days, then will have to go thru initial pairing again.

Edit: On the phone, make sure you are running the latest firmware. My A900 has an option to Upgrade Phone software under the tools menu. I did that and now working fine...

I have the U700 and it works properly (connection and phonebook transfer) in both my E60 and 6 series. No problems with pairing
