Just got my car back today with the new steering rack.? Dealer did the Bluetooth upgrade on my 03/2004 build car (I took delivery April 8, 2004).? It (BT) shows up in the iDrive.? Now I just need to get me a Bluetooth phone to see if it pairs and works.? My SA says it will work.

If it works, you cut it thin. Someone a few cars ahead of you on the assembly line in March has a TCU that wont take the BT upgrade.

My car was built in May04 and the TCU had an April04 mfr date on it. When I took my car to the dealer to get BT set up in December, they could not get the TCU to work with BT.

They discovered that an EARLIER TCU was available to test and guess what, that ealier one worked! So they discovered that I had a faulty TCU and replaced it under warranty. (The TCU that worked was manufactured in Mar04!!!!)

I still had to pay for the software changes and set-up, but there may be some faulty TCUs out there, so don't assume that because it is in the car, it is perfectly fine.

Yep, they switched in March 04. On a pre-March 04 it is definately a problem. March 04 is a 50/50 chance...

Go for the Motorola RAZR V3. It is a great phone and it works well with the car.

Realityman: I wish you the very best of luck, however, having bt show up in the menu is not the whole story. Please let us know what happens when you try and pair a phone and call someone. Hopefully, voice quality will be ok. I think the main issue is how you will sound to callers.

I agree with sj3. Voice quality is a problem for me.

The Treo 650 will be here next week. We'll see how it goes.

BTW, I'm probably the farthest thing from reality man.

I'm going to do just that, I think the RAZR is a very cool phone. I went to see my dealer yesterday afternoon armed with copy of their service bullitin after great discussion they agreeed to try to activate bluetooth in my car. Their saying that BMW is requiring that I have the next software upgrade, the last one took 3 days.
Here's my problem I am a small business owner, we use Nextel, I'm going to give up my phone, keep my number and buy a Cingular V3. My dealer wants me to leave the phone when I bring him the car, I cannot be without a cell phone, all my customers have that number. Any suggestions would be appreciated
