My Ride: 2008 LCI E61 5-Series Touring M-Sport Westfield SpeedSport (Race car). 250bhp, weighs 500kg. 500bhp/ton. 0-60mph 3.2secs.

Well the Bluetooth in the car is finally working as it all should be (TCU Replaced - but thats another story!)

Most callers are saying they can't hear me well. They say overall the volume is quite low, and there's a fair bit of noise as-well as my voice. Did a test and phoned my son at 75mph and he said it was definitely lower volume (and clarity) than with a phone normally.

So, apart from shouting is there any solution? Is there a hidden mic gain setting? (Or one that only the dealer can do?)

I figured this out by accident...

I had the opposite problem. People said I was too loud. It turns out it is the association between your phone volume settings and the car volume settings.

What you likely have is your phone set too high and your audio set too low.

It appears that when you are on a call, if you turn up the volume of the car, (via the volume knob for the radio too), it also increases the volume of the mic as it is transmitted.

I had my phone set to low, and would crank up the car audio to hear the other person.

Try setting your phone to the medium "master volume" setting, and then adjust the car's volume accordingly. Everyone says that mine is crystal clear now, and right volume.

there are two options for a fix for this. One, u can put a small foam piece up by the mic area so that when u r driving, the mic doesn't get the noise from the wind. Two is get the newest version of the bmw mic. I did both and haven't had an issue.

Good luck.

Thanks both of you

@ nigxdoof: What/when is this newer version of the mic? As the car's only 4 months old!

I'm assuming the new mic is already standard on the LCI cars? People can't tell I'm talking on a speakerphone with my '09 E60 and iPhone 3G. Prior to my E60, I had a Jetta that I used a Motorola Bluetooth earpiece for. People could hardly hear what I was saying.

Yea, the LCI's probably have new equipment. I have an 2004 so I knew it was an old mic.

Nope, was a Blackberry Curve 8300. I haven't dared to try it yet with my iPhone 3G since everything got replaced on the car!....

@nigxdoof: Ah right, the car's a 2008 LCI so I guess it will already have the newer mic. Is the foam fix still relevant for cars that don't have a sunroof?
