Just FYI: Bluetooth Enabled for Free
#1
Guys,
I just want to inform you my BMW service department was able to retrofit bluetooth on my 04/04 built 545i. No need for new TCU or anything....
I did it together with the engine software recall and they did everything for free. Dealership was Valley BMW in Roanoke. Look for Nate in service... He's the man.
Anyway, when he tried to update just the software to 15.1, bluetooth was still not working. He had to hook it up again to the computer and specifically enable it. So for you guys that has the 15.1 software but no bluetooth, ask your SA to re-check it with the computer.
One more thing, just to confirm that Nokia 7610 is compatible with the BMW bluetooth. However, I couldn't get it to transfer my contacts. Anybody using the same phone?
Hope this helps guys....

did he have to REprogram any modules? or just "enable" the BT module? how long did this take, maybe if this is a quick CHECK & ENABLE - more will be able to get it done for free now, with the new software. I am on 15.2 now - and would switch to Blouetooth as soon as I get a Nokia 6310i + craddle.

[/quote]I'm not very sure what he did... All I know is that after he uploaded 15.1, he came back to me and said the bluetooth menu under communication is still not there. I talked and persuaded him to check once more and he agreed to do so. He left to work on it for about 30 mins and I was waiting in the lounge. He came back and said that he hooked it up to the CIP once more and enabled the bluetooth. I guess all you need to do is just to "enable" it trough the CIP. It took only 30 mins or so.
Anyway, the bluetooth has been great so far.... Even my ringtone plays on the car's speakers when someone calls.... very cool... My only complains is that I can't get my contacts up to the Idrive....

Getting the contacts up can take upt to 20-30 minutes with the system engaged (the car running) and the phone close by.
