I currently have the iPhone 3G S Snap-in adaptor modified to fit the iPhone 4 but would prefer to buy a proper iPhone 4 snap-in when available

I see you are facing the exact same dilemma as I do 
I do not think it will take the 3GS as the shape is radical different.... but then.. you never know.
