It may be because I have the 3.0 update. I will check again and verify. I do know that my nano used to work with the apple cable untill I did a iPod firmware update then I had to use the BMW Y cable so it may be a firmware issue
Yeah, again it seems that 3.0 is the thing that's giving the problems. Is 3.0.1 or the next one after 3.0 out yet? I thought I remembered seeing something about it recently. Apple should fix this soon as I'm sure it's happening to everyone else with a non-BMW.

I'm going to plug this iphone 3GS into my friend's 335i and see if it has the same problem.
The other interesting thing is...I plugged my gf's ipod nano and the idrive recognises it but the playlist is all mumbo jumbo and its all guesswork on the songs.....is this normal?

3G iphones use a different pin for charging (usb pin rather than firewire pin on the 30 pin plug) so this may cause issues with some cables.
