I have heard that it is possible to enable Bluetooth in US based E60s by disabling the BMW Assist. Has anyone in the US done this? I understand that it's simply replacing the BMW Assist module with the Bluetooth one and BMW requires that you sign a waiver. I really could care less about BMW Assist since I have Nav and really don't need concierge service. I do need a good integrated handsfree system.
I am considering putting a v60 GSM phone in my car (already have eject kit & wiring done) and I would prefer to use the money for the Bluetooth retrofit. I have Professional Nav, does this make any difference?
Can someone shed some light on this?

FWIW, I went the v60 GSM route and can't get my generic v60 GSM to work. It starts to sync, but stays in the "Please Wait..." mode. I'm not sure if there is a phone setting that I'm missing, or if my phonebook needs to be on the SIM and not in the phone, or what. I'm looking into just biting the bullet and getting the real BMW CPT9000 GSM.

I would be very interested in a US Bluetooth option as well. Please, if anyone has information, do share with us.

haven't really checked into it, but when I was at the dealer for my recall, I talked to the parts manager about the car and some of the software issues w/ it. One point was the Bluetooth problem and he told me the same thing about disabling the BMW Assist to get it, though he said it would be available mid-to-late August, making it sound like it was some software upgrade or the new Bluetooth module that would be available then. I'll call him and see if I can get more info.

I too would love some more details but I don't think anyone in the U.S. has got a sucessfully working bluetooth system in their car. It'll all be speculation until the first 2005's get delivered and we see it acctually working. I'm hoping that by the end of the year that we'll have some kind of concrete info on what can be done.

What I have been told is as follows: Yes somewhere around sept they will have bluetooth fixed for the US market. Cars built after that date will have bluetooth. As far as a fix for current cars, it will NOT be a software fix, it will require the replacement of the TCU. He "thought" that BMW-NA would make this avalable to those who wanted it, at what cost, (if any) he was un sure.
