I have just acquired my first E60 (second-hand) and it has blue tooth installed. My Sony Ericsson V800 phone is not listed on the BMW web-site so I want to attempt a DIY dock so that I can have power and external aerial. Rather than pay ?60 for a docking cradle for a similar phone then hack it apart, I want to try and install some fly-leads myself for both power and aerial. Does anyone know what the standard cradle pin designations are please ?

Also have a quiet microphone in the roof. I have to deliberately face the mic and talk quite loud before the person on the other end says that I sound loud enough. I've been to the main dealer to have this looked at but they say all is ok. Bit stumped on this one. Surely the phone model has nothing to do with it ????

The following document might help you figure out some things with the phone cradle, etc. Be aware that you'll probably have to deal with changing the car's current over to whatever current the phone requires.

As far as the microphone, there have been complaints and I believe BMW has a bulletin about it. I complained about an echo a while ago and they replaced my microphone with an "updated" part.

Unfortunately BMW have done something quite stupid here. The cradle that you buy has it's own electronics inside it that triggers the phone cradle to work correctly. i.e. the snap in cradle is not simply a phone holder.

I think it's actually quite smart. How else could you accomodate phones that have different charging requirements?

OK I agree it's smart however unless the electronics from the 2 components marry up you don't have access to DC power. I was initally hoping to get the 12V DC and the using part of an lighter charger for this.

Maybe you can grab 12VDC from the rear lighter sockets?

Also it only appears when you take the rear headphones. And we dont have that option in the UK with Prof Nav.

Sounds like a need a ?60 Sony docking cradle to ensure correct electrics and phone-base fitting (K700 has same pins on the bottom of the phone), then somehow hack off the male aerial plug and move it to the position needed to fit my V800. Bit worrying when ?60 is at stake !!! Failing that, a cheaper/simpler way will be to source a male to male aerial fly-lead (assuming such a thing exists, or at least you can get the plugs and lead to solder up yourself) and simply plug the phone into the car aerial and make do with the phone battery or run an in-car charging lead from the lighter socket.

Had the same idea - can get a fly lead for my phone (I-Mate K-Jam) but have so far been unable to locate the plug that is needed to connect with the aerial terminator in the armrest of my E61. I'm told this is a non-standard fitting peculiar to BMWs. If anyone knows different I'd be glad to hear about it.
