I'm not sure why you're worried about which phone is best with the car cause you probably use it more when you're not driving so get a phone that has the options/specs that suit your needs. You also have to find the right carrier and plan too which may dictate which phones you can get. I believe any phone with bluetooth should be able to be paired with the E60.

Aljosha,
the black thing in which the phone sits is called a "cradle insert".
there are various cradle inserts available from BMW, but your cradle insert only fits one specific phone.
if you want to use your cradle, you have to check at BMW dealer for what phone it is made.

but the cradle is not so good for use, as it only charges your phone and helps with the reception a bit. if you have a separate charger, you basically dont need the cradle.

do you have Bluetooth on your car and do you want to use it?

If you have bluetooth in your car, I doesn't make sense to have the cradle. It is one additional thing you need to do when you get in the car. As far as charging your phone get a lighter connect charger.

I do not have a cradle, but a cradle provide a single docking location for: no unsightly cable(s), power source, multimedia connectivity, and external antenna connection (better reception).
