What does the cradle do that the Bluetooth doesn't, other than charge the phone?

Your blaming BMW cause teh phone mfrs change their phone form factors every few months??

If the makers of phones would keep the same form factor they could add all kinds of features and the cradle would still work. For example, the Mototrola v5xx and v6xx all fit the same cradle. As long as Moto keeps using this form factor you could keep your cradle as u switched each month they release a new phone. ON the other hand Moto also made a phone that is nearly impossible to make a cradle for - the RAZR - plugs/jacks in weird places. Try to find any auto mfr with a "docking" station or cradle for a RAZR

Also connect via cable to external (shark fin 5er or trunk mounted 6er) antenna. Better reception in fringe areas (where I live).

The holy grail in my opinion will be the SIM Access Profile (SAP) for bluetooth. Unfortunately, it requires the car to have a GSM phone, so this won't help us in our current cars - at least in the US. You Europeans may be in luck.

The idea is that the SIM information gets copied to the integrated phone in the car, and the one in your pocket relinquishes the ability to answer calls. This unburdens your mobile handset from the power suck we experience with our current bluetooth link, and it erases the need for a hardwired interconnect between your mobile and the antenna in the car. The integrated phone will be both powered and connected to the car's antenna. That will eliminate the need for phone cradles and the like.

Yes, and there's a sticker inside the windshield up near where the oil change people put their reminder stickers that says the same thing. Silly. Who doesn't use a cell phone in the car?

The manual probably tells you not to speed as well...
