Hi everyone, i'm new to the forum as i just picked up an E60 2004 with a build date of 02/04. Does anyone know if the oem bluetooth retrofit is possible on this car? everything that i have seen so far is for a build date of 03/04 +.
Thanks in advance. |

If you look back through this forum i think that in the USA dealers can retro fit all items (TUC etc) so if you have some spare time i think you will find your answer, but in summary i think its possible cheers |
Possible but not cheap. You will need to replace your TCU (Telematics Control Unit) for the newer (03/04 onward) version. List price for the part is around $1,200 (maybe more) but you might be able to find a re-conditioned one at a lower price.

There is a solution for bluetooth phone connectivity which will definately work for all model year cars if you go the dension GW500 + BTA1500 route...you'll also get iPod + USB + Aux+ Bluetooth A2DP together with this mod...Documents attached are for useful reference:
Overview of the product:Attachment 48600 Phone compatibility:Attachment 48601 Manual:Attachment 48603 But your car needs to meet these requirements: 1)Has to have CCC Sat Nav Pro 2)CCC must be MP3 capable -for the GW500 to work on your car...properly! 2)CDC - you don't even have to sacrifice the CDC for iPod/USB/Aux to work If you don't have mp3 + CDC enabled, then you'll still have to go to the dealer to make this work. For the time being, from what i read, BTA1500 will function properly with progman ver.28.x and below... The BTA1500 emulates as a TCU and will work exactly like the original functionality of an OEM TCU...the price of the GW500 is around US$500.00 and the BTA1500 is around US$100.00 - at least that was what i last checked. So, if your car can't enable bluetooth and you need to buy a new TCU for it to work, i'd recommend this...You'll get a package full of gadgets enabled with the more or less same amount of money spent...jm2c |
Check out this thread too to make you understand better what Dension GW500 offers...

With CCC it is possible to display iPod text on i-Drive, the M-ASK is only capable to write Track1, Track2 ... etc. Ps. I'm not 100% sure about that, but recently I heard of some cases where the Gateway 500 showed text on an M-ASK system! |
There is always the Parrot kit which also provides steering wheel button integration. But if you are after a hybrid product to do a lot more then Dension is the way to go.
