Firstly, welcome to E60 Forums.
Secondly, your question has been answered many times.
You have two choices, replace the TCU with a newer version of the part and then have BT enabled or purchase a BTUM from BMW and use the cradle for a CPT 9000 phone and duplicate BT using the BTUM.
Your options regarding BT activation in your vehicle insofar as the TCU is concerned are described in the attached Service Bulletin.
The BTUM is a Bluetooth Upgrade Module. It snaps into a phone cradle designed for the original CPT 9000 phone sold by BMW prior to BT being available in the early E60's. You will need to purchase the module and the cradle either used (on this forum or from ebay) or new from a dealer (if still available). Once installed, you will have the full BT experience without replacing the TCU.
Compare the costs of the two options. Either way it will not be inexpensive.

Sorry if this question has been answered somewhere in this forum...
Has anyone out there retrofitted a 2004 E60 produced in late 2003 (12/03)?
Thanks!

Thanks a lot. I saw this TSB and did not read down far enough. I called my contact at BMW parts and she said that she couldl do it without a new TCU. Still around $800 with labor though. If I proceed I will post for others.
Thanks!
Thanks!

$800.. cheap?? in the UK my quote stands at ?2500...... ($5000)
There is a large disparity in TCU pricing between NA and EU. How much does the BT option cost from the factory in the EU?

to retrofit incurrs costs for:
TCU - ?936 RRP + Tax
CIP Update - ?200 + Tax
Labour - The rest.... + Tax
I already have a CIP from '06, therefore hopefully need to change the TCU. Just need to be arsed to pick up the phone and get one (scrap yart - ?100+ tax)

I have a 3/04 build E60 that had the Motorola V60 phone in the cradle. I installed a BTUM and bought a compatible phone (Motorola E815), but can't get them to pair. What am I missing?
review earlier notes in this bluetooth forum on this issue, there is much detail to understand and review.
if your car has a post Mar/04 built, then a CIP upgrade to V13+ is what is needed, otherwise a newTCU may be necessary.
Focus on reading on earlier Forum notes and you will see it all unravel before you. It takes time but its all hear, with PDFs and photos of what you need to check. It jsut time for you to filter thru the material.

What I was attempting to determine was whether the TCU's used elsewhere (EU and Aus as examples) are the same as what is/was used here in NA. The very early E60's were not advertised by BMW as BT ready. The original TCU's in NA were messed up by the addition of BMW Assist and early adopters were forced to use the CPT 9000 phone (non BT with a cradle and dock).
The updated TCU permitted BT to work concurrently with Assist. I am curious to see if the TCU in the EU is BT ready, does it need software enabling or are there two types of TCU, one for BT and one for non BT phones.
