Bluetooth dead - Audio breaks up when engine "cold" - MULF semi dead?

Hi

I've been having various issues with the Bluetooth in my 535d (286bhp model) for a number of months and am a somewhat of a loss as to fully repair it.

It started off by the BT <-> Phone connection dropping out, up to the point that you now can't pair it with a phone.

Approximately the same time I noticed upon starting the car the welcome sound when starting up dropped in and out, parking sensor sound also. The I noticed that the iDrive actually freezes whenever sounds cut out.

I tried reading up a little as to the issue and have come to the conclusion that the MULF (see attached photo) is the problem.

I've looked through ebay and some people want silly money for these units and there also seems to be many many variants of them (just to add a little more confusion for me LOL).

The only one I found 2nd hand (with the same model code as mine) was in Poland and the seller said that the connectors had been damaged while removing it, so I didn't buy it.

Basically has anyone had similar experiences, changed the MULF, know of a compatible model, or even better know of any repair tricks?

ANY help or ideas would be really really appreciated.

Many thanks guys.

G'day mate,

Yep sounds like your MULF is on the way out. I have the same issues with audio and non-responsive iDrive as well as no bluetooth or phone functionality.

I am going to give these guys a try.

Good luck.

Electric locks. Dead. Gear illumination. Dead. Clearly you need a new battery. The battery died of old age, or perhaps an alternator issue.
