Thanks to members of this great forum, I was able to improve the audio quality of my BT phone system on my March 04 Build 545. The dealer replaced both microphones and this improved the audio quality for the person on the other end of the phone conversation. There is still room for improvement, but the audio quality is clearly better. I asked for the part number. I was told that it is the same part number.

I can't find anything on searching as to the second microphone. I know there's one overhead by the moonroof.? Where's the second one that's being replaced?

pharding, did they offer to replace the mics without prodding? and how would they know that the mics were the problem? it sounded in other discussions that the software was more at fault.
how would one know at which point in production were the mics improved???? my car was produced a month after yours.
Merv, what do you mean the 2005 version is better, do you know if it is software or mics or why do you say that and how have you compared it? (oh, I see you swapped out your car in your signature!)

2. They have nothing that says the microphones are an issue. However it was posted on this forum that replacing microphones improved the audio quality. BMW is apparently working on a software fix to improve audio quality.
3. Based upon my experience, I suggest replacing the microphones. However I also went from CIP 13.2 to 17.2 or whatever the latest version was as of 6.24.05. That may have accounted for the audio quality improvement in whole or part. I would suggest doing both.
gdavis, it is was good to hear from you again.
My son has an e90 330 on order. He is doing Euro Delivery. My wife accused me of being a bad influence on my son.

[/quote]Actually Paul, one is for the phone, the other for voice commands. My quality improved somewhat after an upgrade to CIP16.1. I think that it also depends on the cell site that I am on. I use the RAZR with Cingular. My wife uses a new V710. I haven't actually tested the voice quality from the other end but it is more consistent.
