I'm hoping one of you experts out there can help me out. I have a Sony Ericsson W880i which links up most of the time with the bluetooth connection, but about 1/3 of the time it connects but with no sound. The phone freezes and I have to stop the car, take out the battery in the phone and restart it. Then the bluetooth connects with audio.
It's driving me MAD!
Am I doing something wrong?

I've faced this problem that you're currently going through too...but, it wasn't a W880i, but a Motorola V3i...i tried unpairing the phone and re-pairing it a couple of times. but, since the outcome was still the same and i knew that i had the latest progman update (at that time it was v27.x), what i did was i upgraded the s/w version of the phone and everything went well after that...try upgrading the software of the phone. that helped me...

Sony Ericsson makes it super easy:

Sony Ericsson Update Service

you'll need a PC running IE6 or better, and of course, the USB cable that comes with the phone.
